Southeast Season Kickoff!

A cold front moved into the area Thanksgiving day allowing for snowmaking temps and even bringing a little natural snow. Although the natural stuff didn't last too long, resorts in the area were making snow at full force until the temps today got too warm.

As of yesterday, Nov 27th, only two resorts had opened in the southeast.

Sugar Mountain opened 2 slopes with 'marginal' condidtions, a.k.a. more like mud and rock boarding.

Cataloochee opened with 3 slopes and from the webcam image, it looked like they had a decent amount of coverage. Well, at least enough to where you couldn't see the grass tips sticking up.

Other area resorts including Beech Mountain Resort, where I'm located, and Appalachian Ski Mtn were also making snow.

Last night Beech announced that there was a possibility for the resort to open today, but having quality snow conditions in mind, they are awaiting more cold weather to arrive to get a better base down before opening.

My boyfriend and I rode up to the resort today and checked out the snow conditions. From what we could tell, they have a good bit of snow made and coverage looks good. Hopefully with this next cold front moving in late next week, we'll get the snowmaking we need to finally open!!

Snowmaking In Progress...

I love to see those words!

Beech, Sugar, App, and Cat all started making snow today, and here at Beech, we're receiving a little natural stuff on the side too :)

App, Sugar, and Cat are all gonna open this weekend, but Beech has postponed their opening date till next weekend. Hopefully Beech will have a decent base built up by then since no skiers or shredders will be packing it down and melting it away...

Which one will open first? The race is on!

Carpet Boarding & Sunsets

No snow leads me to this:

All you need is a PVC pipe, then strap in your board, and you have a workout and balance training all in one! This actually was quite the workout. My legs were on FIRE after about 15 min. Another sign that I need to get my ass in shape soon. SO ready for winter though.

This made me smile today:

Dustin and I drove to the top of Beech and watched the sunset. So pretty and romantic! That was seriously the most beautiful sunset that I've ever seen. The mountains are freakin' fantastic! I don't see how anybody would want to destroy such a beautiful place. Preserve the earth!! :)

Thanksgiving Snow? Lets hope!

Well... looks like Ski Beech's opening date of November 21st is only a dream. As well as the rest of the southeast region's ski resort's opening dates. BOO warm weather! Come back in the summer time when you're wanted! There's a cold front supposed to move through starting next Monday or Tuesday, bringing good snowmaking weather and a few snow showers to the area. Hopefully. God please be correct on this prediction Mr. Weatherman.

I got my new board and bindings a few days ago. I love it. Now, if only I can find some snow to try it out on. Here's my setup:

Feelgood and Escapades. Oh yeah. They are both last years model, but the design and tech didn't change much for this year, so why pay more?! Next season I want to get either the 2010 Never Summer Infinity-R, 2010 Burton Blender, or the 2010 Burton Feelgood with rocker and est. Unless I win the lottery or come across some major dough I will continue to stick with the previous years models to save money. Still brand new though! I will need some new boots by next season though. My Burton Mint's have held up good so far, so we'll see how long they make it this season. May be gettin' some new kicks before the end of this season, depending on how they make it.

That's all for now. There's a meteor shower tonight and I gotta load up on coffee so I can stay awake for it!

Happy Shredding! :D
