RACE TO OPEN

Well Sugar Mountain Resort, Cataloochee Ski Area, and App Ski Mountain are all making snow... but who will be the first to really open? Cat has announced they are opening tomorrow at 8:30am... and Sugar will also be opening tomorrow as well, although they haven't stated a specific opening time yet. I'm sure at 8am tomorrow morning Sugar will announce they are open and win the 'race to open' bragging rights. Yeah, the resorts like to play dirty too. Haven't heard anything about App yet... I don't think they really plan on opening this weekend, just maybe work on building a base for their opening date next weekend.

Anyways, I'm freaking STOKED to get to ride tomorrow! I've been waiting for this day since our spring park melted in April!

I plan on taking the GoPro, so get ready for a video of our first day of the season! :)

HAPPY SHREDDING! <3

Ladies Park Night 3 & Spring Shreddin'

So I FINALLY got to go to a Ladies Park Night at App Ski Mtn. It was SO much fun! Ladies Park Night is just a night where they set up a girls specific park so we ladies can shred it up without dudes bothering us! :) The set up was fun. There was a small jump, maybe 10 ft. at the most, round rail, rainbow box, short fat box, and a long t-box. Everything was chill and I even won a pair of socks in the raffle! Ha. Last thing I need is socks, but oh well. It's free, right?!

Anyways, here's a couple photos of me from the LPN, and a few more from our spring park we have set up on the remaining snow at Beech. Enjoy :)

It's Over... Almost

Well Sunday ended the season for Beech Mountain Resort, and I must say, it was one hell of a season! Great snow, great conditions, fun events, everything was just awesome. I hope next season is just as sweet.

Forecast for today was rain. Woke up to a snow covered deck :) That just means a little fresh for our spring park! We were going to start on the spring park today, but the rain/snow mix has postponed our digging till tomorrow. I'm so pumped for the spring park. It's when I usually learn new tricks because it's a slushy soft landing, and we can set up features however the hell we want!

I was one of the two instructors that got 'Instructor of the Year' for this season! Stoked! Yeah, I'm kind of a big deal :) j/k. But I am so happy that they picked me! Made me feel all good inside. Ha.

The final Ladies Park Night at App is this Friday. I'm NOT missing this one! Should be a lot of fun! Get more info HERE if you're interested in going.

Here's a video I'll share with you...

Peeps.

Wow... what a busy couple of weeks. I was gonna post my pow vid from the last post but I'm saving it for my end of season edit :) It's pretty sweet! A few girls from the Peepshow crew was in the area filming last week and I'm so super freakin pissed that I didn't get to see any of it! Those girls are pretty much my snowboard idols. Seriously. They rip. Here's a clip of them at App.

Southeast Season Kickoff!

A cold front moved into the area Thanksgiving day allowing for snowmaking temps and even bringing a little natural snow. Although the natural stuff didn't last too long, resorts in the area were making snow at full force until the temps today got too warm.

As of yesterday, Nov 27th, only two resorts had opened in the southeast.

Sugar Mountain opened 2 slopes with 'marginal' condidtions, a.k.a. more like mud and rock boarding.

Cataloochee opened with 3 slopes and from the webcam image, it looked like they had a decent amount of coverage. Well, at least enough to where you couldn't see the grass tips sticking up.

Other area resorts including Beech Mountain Resort, where I'm located, and Appalachian Ski Mtn were also making snow.

Last night Beech announced that there was a possibility for the resort to open today, but having quality snow conditions in mind, they are awaiting more cold weather to arrive to get a better base down before opening.

My boyfriend and I rode up to the resort today and checked out the snow conditions. From what we could tell, they have a good bit of snow made and coverage looks good. Hopefully with this next cold front moving in late next week, we'll get the snowmaking we need to finally open!!

Snowmaking In Progress...

I love to see those words!

Beech, Sugar, App, and Cat all started making snow today, and here at Beech, we're receiving a little natural stuff on the side too :)

App, Sugar, and Cat are all gonna open this weekend, but Beech has postponed their opening date till next weekend. Hopefully Beech will have a decent base built up by then since no skiers or shredders will be packing it down and melting it away...

Which one will open first? The race is on!
