The Most Insane Urban Edit You'll Ever See...

...until the next bionic snowboarder comes along.

Seriously though, Seb Toots is killing it these days... and has been for a while. This edit = mind blown.

Well done, sir. Well done.

Jib Jam & Slopestyle Events

I'll get to the exciting stuff first! I just realized I never got around to posting the Jib Jam edit! Sonny Pittman, who has been videoing and making awesome edits of the events, just posted the Slopestyle edit form last weekend so I'll post them here as well. I got a few clips in the Jib Jam edit, and I ended up winning the girls division. Since I cracked my ribs and I'm still out of commission, I didn't get to ride in the Slopestyle contest. Bummer, because it looked like tons of fun and more girls entered this time! I ended up handing out the prizes to the winners, so I have a short appearance in the Slopestyle vid! There is one more event in the Great Alaskan Terrain Park Series, the Wild Caught Banked Slalom, which is happening this weekend. I won't get to take part in that one either :( but I'll be sure and post the video recap of that one on here too!

Here's the Jib Jam edit...

Here's the slopestyle edit...

Thanks again to Sonny for the great edits, and to the sponsors: Sequence Boardshop, Borderline Boardshop, and Aurora Projekt

Great job Dustin and Sarah for organizing such fun events, and of course Eaglecrest for being the heart of it all!

Adventures of Alaska Vol. 1

I'm sure most of you have seen the photos and videos that are in this lil video I made today, but I'm posting it up on here anyways! I made this video to burn to DVD and send to my grandparents and other family members who do not use the internet so they can see some of the amazing adventures I've experienced so far in Alaska.

This video only touches the amount of photos/videos I have on my computer, but I don't want to bore them with a multi-day long session in front of the tv :) Everything on here can be found on my facebook page or somewhere in this blog.

This is also my first video using Final Cut Pro X, a new video editing program I'm using. It's much, much better than iMovie, which was what I always used before. I'm still a video making newb, so don't be too much of a critic please :)

Also note that all photos/videos were taken by myself or Dustin, except the first three aurora photos which were taken by Frank Pierce, and a few of the Sheep Mountain heli trip photos were taken by Bill Glude.

Be sure to view it in HD, it's much better!

Opening Day at Eaglecrest!

Today was opening day! It felt soooo so so so good to ride groomed runs and making lift laps. Although only a small section of the mountain was open, we still had a blast. We had training pretty much all day but it was good to brush up on some stuff and get some riding in with other instructors. There were two rails set up and it was dumping snow the whole time.We even did a little rail clinic to end the day. Hopefully the whole mountain will be open soon. Lots of snow is in the forecast, so if mother nature cooperates, we'll be getting more pow turns in again very soon!

Awesome first official day of the season!

This isn't relevant to opening day, but below is a video that we saw at the avalanche workshop we attended a few weeks ago. This morning I saw where my friend Lisa posted a link on Facebook and I was super excited to be able to watch it again since I didn't realize it was available online. It talks mainly about avalanche awareness and safety but also has many great shots of the terrain available at Eaglecrest! Even if you have no interest in anything to do with avalanches, watch it anyways to get a glimpse of what our season is going to be like :)

Power to the Powder

Today we hiked up Eaglecrest and got some turns in again. This time, on actual POWDER boards. Dustin was on a Capita Charlie Slasher 158 and I was on the same board but in a 154. Thanks to Spenser for letting us borrow these boards, we got some amazing turns in!

We hiked to the top of the ridge and the view was more than amazing. Snow covered mountain ranges in all directions, and birds eye view of the Inside Passage around us, not to mention a few ravens that kept making an appearance. Although the sun wasn't completely out, we could see that strange ball of energy through the overcast and a lovely 'halo' was surrounding it. I've seen this several times back home, but being on top of a mountain with these views, deep snow, and a sun halo to top it off was just epic.

The hike was pretty tiring. It snowed a significant amount since the last time we hiked up, and without snowshoes or splits, it was quite a workout. Not that I'm complaining... it's well worth the sweat and burning legs to get to the top of that ridge and see what we saw today.

Oh yeah, the ride down was pretty fun too! The snow was still nice and fluffy from the past snowfall and since we were on bigger boards, staying afloat and making awesome turns was effortless. I'm still a little weary of attempting any significant drop since I'm not used to riding actual powder, plus being on a board I wasn't really used to riding. I certainly don't want to attempt a drop with my Smokin' board, mainly because it's just too damn short for that kind of riding. Park boards and powder drops don't mix very well :)

Next time I'm going to give my Burton Feelgood a try. It's only a 149, but it's a bit stiffer and has more of a nose so hopefully it will be powder friendly. After today, I've decided I want to stick around a 154 or slightly smaller for my next board purchase... and hopefully that purchase will be a split!

Here are a few photos (and a video!)

Looking up towards the top of Black Bear chair

The sun halo was so beautiful

Looking back on Douglas and a view of part of Juneau through the valley

Awesome trees :)

Once we got closer to the top, we were easily sinking knee deep

Looking towards Admiralty Island

Mountains, snow, water... what could be more beautiful?!

Note: This video was still 'processing' when I posted this, so if it's still not ready to view, please check back later! :)

EUROTIC

Ok, all I have to say about this one is WATCH the damn movie!

If you like snowboarding, you will LOVE this movie. Without a doubt.
And I'm talking to you dudes too.
Just because this is an all-chick flick shouldn't even be in the question of 'should I watch this'.

Just watch. And be amazed.

Some of my favorite riders, and a few I've never heard of. These girls killed it. KILLED IT!

Too Hard

This flick dropped about a week ago, and if you haven't already seen it, here it is!

My take on the movie?

The riding was great and overall I loved it. The only thing I thought was a little over the top was the editing. With it being Danyale Patterson's first film, I guess that's ok. Everyone gets a little excited with the editing when they have their first big film released I suppose. I'm not really one to judge since I pretty much suck at all the fancy editing. The dangling bloody tampon was definitely a bit too much, even from a girls perspective. I can't imagine what guys think of that little part. It does feature some of my favorite riders, so it's a video that I will definitely watch over and over again!

Did you love it? Hate it? Let me know what you think!

Roots Rideshop Skate Session

Incase you didn't know, Roots Rideshop at Beech Mountain Resort built a 5 foot half-pipe over the summer. And incase you haven't seen it, it's pretty freakin' awesome. I'd never been on a mini ramp, half-pipe, anything like that until this one. I still suck at it and bust my ass quite often just doing simple stuff, but I'm slowly getting better. I'm hoping that being able to skate in the summer now will help me with my snowboarding in the winter.

Anyways, Saturday was our staff meeting for ski school, and after the meeting a few people went to skate. The video below is our friend John skating with my GoPro. Check it.

Here's Sunday's footy...

Opening Day @ Sugar

Saturday Sugar Mtn Resort opened up with one whole run, and guess who was there to shred it all day! :)

2011 Seattle Downtown Throwdown

Here's YoBeat's video for the 2011 Seattle Downtown Throwdown

Pretty decent action going on. Looked like a fun set-up.
Kinda bummed that I didn't see any girl footy, if any even
entered it, which I'm sure a few did. Not even a girl division. Lame.

Anyways, check it out.

Spring Shred 2011

It's been a few weeks since my last post. I miss my daddy so much. He was the one I turned to when I needed advice about anything. It feels so strange when I go home... the house is just not the same without him there. But I know he's in a better place, and he'll be looking out for me for the rest of my life.

On a lighter note, I ordered snowboard boots today!! :)
So pumped. Even though I can't wear them for another 3 months
I'll be happy to wear them around the condo and pretend I'm shreddin'!
I got last years model of the Burton Mint boot. I have the same boot, but the '08 model. They are super comfy and have the perfect softness and flex.

Speaking of shredding... I can't WAIT till the first snowfall. There will DEFINITELY be a party to celebrate the first snowflake of the season. It's been wayyy to long since I've been on my board.

So... 4 months after my last shred, I've finally put some of our spring park footage together into a lil edit for everyone to enjoy. I'm still very VERY new to video editing, so please don't be too harsh lol. Hope you enjoy!
