The Real Easter

Happy Easter, Happy Bunny Day, Happy Resurrection Day... Whatever you call it, I hope everyone has a splendid Sunday!

Some interesting facts about Easter I stumbled upon today...

- The word 'Easter' is derived from the deity
'Eostre', the goddess of fertility and spring

- The 'egg laying Easter bunny' comes from the pagan story of the goddess
Eostre arriving late for spring one year, which continued the
cold and snowy winter season late into the year. Upon her
arrival, she found a bird in the snow with its wings frozen.
Feeling sorry for the bird, she turned it into a
rabbit (the symbol for fertility) but it kept it's ability to lay
eggs, only for one day a year, the spring equinox (aka Easter)

- When you make an Easter basket, you put fake grass (symbolizing the 'womb'),
colored eggs (fertility), and candy or toys (offerings to the goddess)

Isn't it amazing what you can find out from the wonderful world of Google?
Haha... and it's amazing how 'modernized' Christian holidays have
become and the true meanings forgotten.

Celebrate Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day!

Go out and plant a tree, flower, bush...
pick up some trash...
admire nature...
do SOMETHING to show Mother Nature you love her :)

One thing that kinda irks me is that there has to be a day dedicated to nature.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great thing! But... we should be
doing the things we do on Earth Day, EVERY day. People should
celebrate and admire this beautiful planet EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Not just one day a year, which most people do.

Anyways... just be thankful that the earth hasn't kicked us out
for being so mean to it in the past 100 years.

Turn Up The Volume.

I came across this band just looking at random stuff, and I absolutely LOVE them! Every song is amazing. They have such a 'feel good' sound and it just makes me smile listening to them. Definitely check out some of their tracks. "Monsters" and "Amnesiacs" are my favorites. But I like them ALL!

2011 Billabong Flaunt It

I love watching the recaps of the Billabong Flaunt It event because the talent is pretty freakin' epic. These chicks were throwing some serious steeze and tricks that most dudes here in the Southeast can only dream of landing. Amazing. Check out the vid.

Bohemian Outlaw

Bohemian Outlaw is a story of the life, trials, and adventures of my cousin, Bryan Vaughn. You can download it from Amazon.com for Kindle for 8 bucks, and it's well worth you time. It took me about an hour to read it, and all I could say was... wow.

It's such an inspiring and uplifting story and it really makes you appreciate what's important in life, to follow your dreams, and live for yourself and the people that matter to you. Be who you want to be and don't conform to the 'normal' standards. I highly recommend this to everyone. It's an easy read and keeps you drawn in till the very last word. If you can spare $8, please buy, read, and support Bryan's book.

Back lips & Fronts

Yesterday was the best spring park shred day yet. We had a whole crew come up and shred. Friends, beer, music, snow, and good times! We all were having so much fun we really didn't get much video and pictures till the end of the day. I only busted out my camera for a few shots. Our friend Kenny has his GoPro and I got a few vids from that.

All in all, it was a great progression day. I learned to back lip a flat box. It was a small flat box, and I felt like I would've been able to make it smoother and a cleaner landing if I had more box to work with, but it was super fun and exciting anyways! Got some frontboard practice in and a few good 180s off of some rails.

I also have the most awkward looking farmers tan ever. I even put spf50 on! WTF. My arms and face are friiiiiied. Totally worth it though. :)

Here's a short vid from the past couple days.

Keystone Resort was home to this years Ms Superpark 7 presented by Gatorade. The set-up was insane and pretty much all the riders agreed that this was the best one yet. Here's the video recaps of days 1-4. For more coverage and photos go to www.snowboardermag.com

Oh my, Thundersnow!

Have you ever experienced thundersnow? It's pretty amazing. Imagine a magnificent lightning show with snowflakes as the backdrop. Thunder crackling above the falling snow. Apparently thundersnow is pretty rare, and it makes sense because this is the first time I've seen it. If you get a chance to experience it you will most certainly be impressed.

Anyways... Dustin and I are about to head out to the snow and play around on some features. Gotta love spring park :) Especially with 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground. Makes for a nice soft landing on the what is now hard crunchy frozen slush because it's 29 degrees outside! Ha. Hopefully we'll get some good pics and vids and I'll post that up later.

Happy Shredding
XOXO
