The Real Easter

Happy Easter, Happy Bunny Day, Happy Resurrection Day... Whatever you call it, I hope everyone has a splendid Sunday!

Some interesting facts about Easter I stumbled upon today...

- The word 'Easter' is derived from the deity
'Eostre', the goddess of fertility and spring

- The 'egg laying Easter bunny' comes from the pagan story of the goddess
Eostre arriving late for spring one year, which continued the
cold and snowy winter season late into the year. Upon her
arrival, she found a bird in the snow with its wings frozen.
Feeling sorry for the bird, she turned it into a
rabbit (the symbol for fertility) but it kept it's ability to lay
eggs, only for one day a year, the spring equinox (aka Easter)

- When you make an Easter basket, you put fake grass (symbolizing the 'womb'),
colored eggs (fertility), and candy or toys (offerings to the goddess)

Isn't it amazing what you can find out from the wonderful world of Google?
Haha... and it's amazing how 'modernized' Christian holidays have
become and the true meanings forgotten.
