Here Fishy Fishy...

Dustin has been wanting a fish tank for a while now. Since we're pretty much settled in (although still lacking a bed frame), we decided to get one. We've had it a little less than a week and put some schooling fish in there. After another week or so, we plan on getting a couple angel fish and some freshwater ghost shrimp. We didn't want anything fancy, just a simple tank with a sandy, natural look to it. Winter doesn't quite know what to think of it yet. Hopefully she'll view them as friends and not fish treats!

I'm glad Dustin knows more about aquariums than I do. I'm clueless when it comes to tank care, water conditions, etc...

I love it though! It's so relaxing to just sit and watch the little guys and gals swim around. At least we saved them from a pet store tank with a hundred other fishy tankmates.

A Saturday With My Sister

Unfortunately I don't get to see my lil sis, Destiny, much so when I could manage two days off in a row over the weekend, it was game on!

I picked her up from school yesterday and off to Beech Mtn we headed. We got back in time to see one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen on Beech. It was breathtaking, and even better that I got to watch it with Destiny.

Today, we woke up and had a good breakfast and headed out the door only to find that I had a flat tire :( but no worries! Dustin saved the day and we had the tire plugged and ready to roll within 30 minutes! Just another reason why I love that man!

We got to Grandfather Mtn (one of my favorite places) and checked out the animal habitats. We saw lots of bears, a couple mountain lions, otters, and lots if deer. Thank goodness all the animals were out and about! I've been there many times and not been able to see anything.

After the animals, we went further up the mountain to the 'mile high' swinging bridge. It was fun and the view was amazing. We got to climb a few big rocks as well :) So happy to see such a big smile on her face!

After heading back to Beech for a good lunch and a quick rest, we headed to Boone to Mystery Hill! I love that place, it's so much fun for all ages. If you're not familiar with Mystery Hill, it's worth a Google and a visit!

What a fun day! So glad I got to spend some time with my sister. Here are some pics!

Random Rants

It's been well over a month since my last post. My birthday has passed, as well as Dustins. We went on a camping trip (with keg) :) for our birthdays which was hella fun. Not much else has happened, other than getting back to work full swing at the Club.

There are a couple concerns of mine that I would like to share.

First, the Miami zombie apocalypse. Really? If you haven't heard, check this link out:
http://www.naturalnews.com/035990_zombie_apocalypse_Miami_police.html

Secondly, on June 5th, we will be able to see the silhouette of Venus fly across the moon. Considering this wont happen again until the year 2117, I think it's pretty damn important that we try to get a glimpse of this. For more info on this spectacular event, check out: http://www.transitofvenus.org/

Another thing is coconut oil. This stuff is amazing. Seriously amazing. You can use coconut oil for many, many, MANY things, from cooking to cleaning to health and beauty. This is definitely a must-read article! Check it out here: http://www.naturalnews.com/036028_coconu_oil_health_solutions.html

One last thing that has me wondering how some people are so frigging STUPID to let someone microchip them is because of this article: http://rt.com/usa/news/texas-microchips-school-district-262/

Here's a photo to think about :)

Goodbye Snow, Hello Spring

Well... the rain and the warm temps are making a permanent stay in the forecast, which means goodbye to the snow. Hopefully we'll still have some patches left to play around with the traditional Spring Park. We were gonna go out today but rumbling thunder and the occasional rain drops made us lazy and stay inside.

As much as I LOVE snow and winter, I'm kinda excited for spring and summer. I'm ready to get my tan on and appreciate the beautiful planet we live on. Ostara (the Pagan holiday for the spring equinox) is Monday night and the weather is supposed to be beautiful. I'd love to go camping and appreciate the 'greening of the Earth' but we'll see how that works out. I've found that I really love things involving nature and the earth, and it makes me feel more 'intune' with myself. Guess that explains my love for the winter season and snow... and snowboarding of course!

As far as Spring Park... I'll post an update as soon as we get some features out and have some fun. I really wanna put my GoPro to use since I didn't get to use it much over the winter (thanks, rain and warm temps).

Sorry for the lacking updates lately. Our internet is out at the house and I have to rely on other locations to update anything. I'm working on getting our own internet service so I can update more in the future.

Yum

What do I do when I have a sweet craving and I'm thinking of snow?

Snowflake cookies of course! :) Man oh man are they yummy too.

October SNOW!

Wow. It's been way too long since I've updated.

A lot of stuff has been going on though.

On Sat, October 1st, it SNOWED!
Well, not much, but enough to get me pumped even more for the season. We only got a half inch, but man oh man was it good to see that white stuff coming down again. Hopefully we'll get a good snowfall soon!

Also, last weekend was the USA Cycling Mountain Bike Gravity National Championships here at Beech Mountain Resort. The event was super fun. Although the Brew's N View's beer tasting tent almost got the best of me, I did manage to get a few pics that I will post up in a bit. Gotta run for now.

* Peace <3 Snowflakes *

Spring Shred 2011

It's been a few weeks since my last post. I miss my daddy so much. He was the one I turned to when I needed advice about anything. It feels so strange when I go home... the house is just not the same without him there. But I know he's in a better place, and he'll be looking out for me for the rest of my life.

On a lighter note, I ordered snowboard boots today!! :)
So pumped. Even though I can't wear them for another 3 months
I'll be happy to wear them around the condo and pretend I'm shreddin'!
I got last years model of the Burton Mint boot. I have the same boot, but the '08 model. They are super comfy and have the perfect softness and flex.

Speaking of shredding... I can't WAIT till the first snowfall. There will DEFINITELY be a party to celebrate the first snowflake of the season. It's been wayyy to long since I've been on my board.

So... 4 months after my last shred, I've finally put some of our spring park footage together into a lil edit for everyone to enjoy. I'm still very VERY new to video editing, so please don't be too harsh lol. Hope you enjoy!

My new obsession...

...is True Blood! Why didn't I start watching that show earlier?! I've been watching from the beginning and now I love it.

Monday night we went up to the gazebo at Beech and watched some more fireworks. All I have to say is... a.ma.zing. Probably the best time yet up there. It had rained earlier in the day, and the clouds where low in the valleys, so the fireworks were going off right above the cloud line. Good for us, but bad for the people below who could see nothing but bright flashes above the clouds! ha.

And I also have a plant obsession. I bought 2 palms, one for outside and one for inside, and a cute lil tropical plant that I have no clue what it is. I love 'em! As long as I don't kill them! I don't have a very green thumb, although I do try!

Update.

I'm long overdue for an update. Alot has been going on the past few weeks and I haven't had much free time.

For starters, about 3 weeks ago my dad finally got the call and he had a double lung transplant. Everything went well for the most part and now he is recovering extremely well. It's a long road ahead though, recovering from an operation that serious take a good 6 months before normal activities can happen. I got to go to Nashville to see him for a couple days, and I plan on taking another trip to visit him very soon!

Work has gotten much busier, finally! Between catching rays at the pool before work, and trying to get back in the routine of playing tennis a few times a week, AND doing my P90X workout every day, I haven't had much time for anything else!

I need snow soon. A snowflex trip is definitely in the planning!

Birthday & Stuff

So my birthday was Saturday. I had to work on my birthday, which wasn't all that bad because my boyfriend had to work too, plus I made some money, and I couldn't go home to visit the fam till Monday, so it worked out. He treated me to a very sweet sunrise breakfast on the deck... what a sweet surprise!

The trip home was fun. I got to see my lil sis' 1st grade awards, found out that my dad is now #1 on the transplant list (hopefully that will happen soon so he can get it over with and get outside doing the things he loves again!), and I got to spend some quality time with my family and some friends.

Now I'm back on my mountain and plan on having a relaxing night with my man.

Hopefully no tornado will come sweep us away tonight... this severe weather is INSANE! Mother nature is seriously pissed at the human race. All the tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and earthquakes that have happened in the past 10 years have GOT to be some sort of sign. That shit is just not normal.

Anyways...

Happy Shredding!
XOXO

Random Bullshit.

I'm so ready to get back on my board... I only have 7 more months to go! *sad face*

A trip to Liberty Snowflex Center is going to happen very soon. If you live on the east coast and you want a summertime snow fix, this is the place to go. The actual college may have been funded by a crazy mofo, but at least they got something right... SNOWFLEX!

And... our internet is out. AGAIN. Well, technically not our internet.. our wonderfully kind neighbors who let us use their wifi are out of town for a while, and until the internet fairy goes into their condo to fix it, posts will be sparingly for a while. But, that just means fewer post of me ranting about how I wish it was winter again, so good for whoever reads my blog! ha.

Anyways... until next time...

Happy Shredding!
XOXO

Where'd the Snow Go?

What the fuck.

Where did the all the snow go? It seems like yesterday I was shreddin' the
mountain, report to lineup, shred the mountain, report to lineup, shred the
mountain, finally get a lesson, shred the mountain some more, then
get off work and celebrate the daily beer:30 with a PBR at the View Haus
bar with my boyfriend and other instructors and friends.
Sleep. Repeat. Sleep. Repeat. Sleep. Repeat. From late November till mid-March.

And then... BAM!

It's May, opening day at Club I work at is tomorrow, and all the white stuff is gone.
For the next 6 months, I will slave away serving the mostly older Jewish
crowd their pork chops, have some good times, have some days I want
to scream, have some more good times and pray for snow.

Once the Club closes in October, the countdown will start till shred season!

Don't get me wrong, I do love summer, I just love winter way way more.
I love hiking, mountain biking, camping trips, and summertime bonfires,
but the whole time, in the back of my mind, I'm thinking of tree runs,
pow slashes, stomping that rail trick, and cruisin' down the mountain
with friends.

I can only dream of one day being able to have a never-ending
winter, chase the snow around the globe, and to you lucky bastards that are
doing that... cheers to you!

Happy Shredding Everyone!
XOXO

Bohemian Outlaw

Bohemian Outlaw is a story of the life, trials, and adventures of my cousin, Bryan Vaughn. You can download it from Amazon.com for Kindle for 8 bucks, and it's well worth you time. It took me about an hour to read it, and all I could say was... wow.

It's such an inspiring and uplifting story and it really makes you appreciate what's important in life, to follow your dreams, and live for yourself and the people that matter to you. Be who you want to be and don't conform to the 'normal' standards. I highly recommend this to everyone. It's an easy read and keeps you drawn in till the very last word. If you can spare $8, please buy, read, and support Bryan's book.

Oh my, Thundersnow!

Have you ever experienced thundersnow? It's pretty amazing. Imagine a magnificent lightning show with snowflakes as the backdrop. Thunder crackling above the falling snow. Apparently thundersnow is pretty rare, and it makes sense because this is the first time I've seen it. If you get a chance to experience it you will most certainly be impressed.

Anyways... Dustin and I are about to head out to the snow and play around on some features. Gotta love spring park :) Especially with 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground. Makes for a nice soft landing on the what is now hard crunchy frozen slush because it's 29 degrees outside! Ha. Hopefully we'll get some good pics and vids and I'll post that up later.

Happy Shredding
XOXO

Random Laugh.

So this has nothing to do with snow or shredding, but this just made me laugh out loud. I love my cat, Winter, to death and she's pulled half of the stunts that's in this video. Laugh and enjoy.

Summer Goals

My goals for the summer (in no particular order):

Get a new board and new boots

Get an iPhone

Get a GoPro so we can get some sick shots next season :)

Take a trip to Liberty Snowflex Centre so I can get a summer shred sesh in.

COMPLETE P90X instead of just doing half of it :)

Get a mountain bike so I can ride with my man.

Get a RED Hi-Fi helmet in Electric Blue (pic in last post)

I WILL complete these goals!

Ho Ho Ho!

Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm getting a white Christmas here. Hope everyone else is as well!
Mine has been pretty awesome so far. I have the best family, friends, and boyfriend a girl could ask for. I wanted to go home for Christmas but I'm still sick (boo for cold meds not working) and I don't wanna make everyone else sick, especially my dad because of his health problems, from me spreading my germs everywhere. So instead I will spend my Christmas day with my boyfriend and on the slopes (working, of course). It's snowing like crazy and it's actually not foggy for a change, so riding today should be pretty dang awesome.

I might even get a lil Christmas edit done if I can get my camera charged in time :)

Go Lunar!

Tonight will be epic, but this has nothing to do with shredding. The northern hemisphere will be seeing something magical in the next few hours. It's the first lunar eclipse to happen on the Winter Solstice, and to make the moon red, since 1638. It's also the last lunar eclipse of this kind to happen for over 400 years. Pretty epic in my opinion. I'm not that much into science, or astronomy for that matter, but something this rare is pretty darn cool and needs to be recognized. If you want to see it and you're on the East Coast, set your alarm for around 1:40 and be prepared to set up for about 3 hours. The main event will happen around 2:40. I dunno if eclipses are normally this long, but maybe it's why it makes this one so special. Who knows. All I know is that my ass is setting the alarm and I'm not gonna miss this for the world. Hope everyone can enjoy this spectacular show! Or at least a small part of it!
